The Human Rights Associates Program is designed to introduce students to the practice of human rights law and deepen students' understanding of a range of practice areas. The Program has elements tailored to incoming law students as well as to 2L, 3L and LL.M. students. During the 2013-2014 academic year, the Human Rights Associates Program will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm, beginning September 25.
Each week, Associates will meet with a human rights attorney and discuss his or her practice. Participants have the unique opportunity to interact with high-level practitioners in an intimate, seminar-style environment and to learn about the challenges and opportunities involved in human rights work. The program will also provide tailored guidance to students regarding internships, clinics, and human rights career planning. In addition to attending weekly meetings and completing short background readings, Associates are required to attend and report back on two human rights events in Washington, D.C. throughout the year (one each semester). Other research and writing opportunities may also be available through the Institute's work. The program does not provide academic credit.
