Starting this month, OCS will launch programming designed to make you the strongest possible applicant for the private sector recruiting process that will take place this summer and fall. (We know: it seems too early to be thinking about 2L/3E summer. It’s perfectly fine if you’re searching for a position for this coming summer; but fast on the heels of starting your position in May will be preparation for on-campus recruiting in August and September.)
Our spring programming will provide some of the tools -- as well as access to employers -- to prepare you for Early Interview Week and related recruiting initiatives.
There are four components to the preparation: A) networking guidance; B) geographic market research; C) networking receptions; D) EIW strategy/mechanics information sessions. Please mark your calendars now, and stay tuned to Hoya Headlines for more information as events approach.
In the meantime, here are some of our top tips:
A. Learn how to prepare for networking receptions with firms
Missed the workshop on MARCH 6 @ 3:30pm? No problem! Watch OCS’s workshop on navigating networking receptions here.
B. Brush up on your geography.
OCS is bringing industry professional to campus to educate you on the ins-and-outs of several geographic markets, including DC (March26), NYC (March 18), California (March 27), and Boston (March 18). Learn about industry trends and hot practice areas to make yourself a more educated applicant in the Fall.
C. Meet the people who will help you ace your interviews.
MARCH 18 AND MARCH 25 FROM 5:30-7:30pm, SPORT & FITNESS CENTER LOBBY -- Attend the networking receptions being held at Georgetown in mid-March -- two separate receptions, each with a unique collection of employers.. These are terrific opportunities to meet representatives from over 50 firms. Get to know alums, learn about new practice areas, and develop your elevator pitch. Also, give yourself ammunition to answer one of the most common -- and potentially challenging -- interview questions you'll get in August, “why do you want to work at our firm?” RSVP in Symplicity now.
D. Have a strategy for EIW.
We're hosting 18 EIW information sessions in the OCS suite -- the good news is that you'll attend only one. The above programs are strongly recommended; but these information sessions are all but required. Come find out how the recruiting process works, what strategies to employ, and learn about the importance of connecting to firms outside the formal EIW program. We'll also review key points for having a successful 1L summer. You can RSVP now for the session of your choosing via the Events tab in Symplicity.
